Drag-and-Drop Email Builder

Mixpanel's drag-and-drop email builder allows you to drag and drop content, such as images and buttons, into your email. In addition, you can use pre-made templates, and use saved modules to quickly structure your email.

You can click on Switch to Classic Editor in the top left of the builder at any time to return to the classic email builder.

You can also save modules and images. Modules are blocks of HTML that can contain images, text, tables, etc. as a template to be used in future emails. For example, you could have a footer module that you re-use across emails rather than having to re-design every time. Your project images are saved, making it easy to add them to any emails without having to re-upload them each time.

Caveats

While you can edit HTML in this builder by clicking on the </> icon, be careful not to edit any of the existing classes in the templates (this might break drag-and-drop functionality). You can also switch into the classic editor at any point in time for any individual email, but due to the risk of HTML changing, you will not be able to switch back into the drag-and-drop builder from the classic HTML editor.

Create an Email Message with the Drag-and-Drop Builder

On the builder page, you have the option to choose a blank template, one column template, two column template, or to write your own custom HTML.

Click on one of these templates to begin preparing the email. In this example, a blank template is used.

Liquid Templating

If you choose to use liquid templating in this builder by selecting Use advanced personalization, note that liquid templating works within structures, but any templating across structures can cause errors.

Add Elements to Content

Drag and drop any of the blocks, structures, or modules on the right side of the builder to add to your email. After dragging any of these blocks, click into the field to view additional options, such as the field to upload a new image or select one of your saved images. You can also edit things such as background color and text format.

There are four classes of elements:

  • Stripes: Stripes are things like the content (body) or the footer. You can insert containers into the stripe.
  • Structures: A structure is a set of containers, which can have multiple blocks within it.
  • Containers: A container can have multiple blocks, so it can be a combination of an image and a button.
  • Blocks: A block can be text, image, video, etc.

You can save any stripe, container, or structure as a module to be reused later.

Edit Content and Save Modules

Hover over the dots to the left of any block in the builder to view more options. The “save to module” option is only available for stripes, structures and containers, but not for individual blocks.

Saving a structure to your modules will allow you to reuse that same structure in other emails. This is how you can save images and create templated structures.

Appearance Tab

Additional customization options are available under the Appearance tab. This includes the option to add additional styling, such as font size, headers and footers, to your email.

Pre-Headers

Use hidden pre-headers to increase the open rates of your emails by adding more information to your email subject line.

Insert a pre-header by clicking on the gear icon at the top right of the builder and entering the pre-header text into the field.
